2 Chilanga men nabbed over counterfeit notes
TWO Businessmen of Chilanga have been arrested for being in possession of K6, 000 counterfeit notes.
Drug Enforcement Commission public relations officer, Theresa Katongo said the Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit in Eastern Province arrested and joint- ly charged the duo, Samson Luwaile, 38, and Edwin Chibanga, 24.
Ms Katongo said the two were intercepted at an Airtel Money booth where they tried to send K400 counterfeit notes.
“After further investiga- tions, the Commission found K5, 600 counterfeit notes in a room the two were occupying at a named lodge in Lundazi District,” she said.
Ms Katongo cautioned members of the public to famil- iarise themselves with the fea- tures on the Zambian Kwacha and look out for unscrupulous individuals behind a spate of counterfeit notes.
She warned that DEC would not relent in its mandate to ensure that individuals be- hind such illicit activities were brought to book.
Meanwhile, two small-scale farmers in Central Province have been arrested for unlaw- ful cultivation of fresh can- nabis plants weighing over 1 tonne contrary to Chapter 96 of the laws of Zambia.
Ms Katongo said Wale Phiri, 57, a small scale farmer of Kan’gombe area in Kabwe had been arrested for unlaw- ful cultivation of fresh can- nabis plants weighing 920 Kilograms.
She said in a similar inci- dence, Steed Muwazwa, 52, a small scale farmer of Malao Farm in Chibombo had been arrested for unlawful cultiva- tion of fresh cannabis plants weighing 521 Kilograms.
Ms Katongo said all suspects were expected to appear in court soon.
