Damaged bridge to be ready June - RDA
WORKS on the Great East Road Bridge in Lundazi that was recently washed away will be completed in June this year, Road Development Agency (RDA) Director Communications and Corporate Affairs Masuzyo Ndhlovu has said.
Mr Ndhlovu said the estimated time frame for the completion of the project was two months.
He said in an interview yesterday, that the commissioning of the start of the major works was done this month and was expected to be completed in June this year.
Recently RDA Board chairperson Samuel Mukupa told the Daily Nation in an interview that the works on the bridge would cost K2 million.
Recently, Mr Mukupa said the works which started last month were expected to take between 21 and 28 days.
He said the agency had already mobilised resources to ensure that the engineers but up strong infrastructure.
Mr Mukupa said the agency would not engage any private contractors to work on the damaged bridge.
He said the RDA engineers would undertake the works of the project.
And Mr Ndhlovu yesterday said the RDA would ensure that good infrastructure would be put in place which would stand the test of time.
“You will recall that in February after we experienced that wash away we had to install that bridge and motorists were using it for some time until when we decommissioned the bridge, that is removing of that bridge and this was done on 17th April.
“So we have made a deviation with a temporal bridge which they are using now while we are now doing permanent work on the main road,” he said.
Mr Ndhlovu said the engineers would put up a box convex in order to strengthen the tension of the road.
He said initially the project was supposed to be done by one and half month but the works needed to be done required a two months time frame.
