A TECHNICAL committee has been set up by government to review reports of contractors who have been working with Mopani in Kitwe and Mufulira mines, the Mine Suppliers and Contractors Association of Zambia has said.
Association president Austine Mubanga said once this process was concluded, operations would resume at the two mines. Mr Mubanga said all contractors were instructed to submit individual reports so they could be reviewed. He said in an interview yesterday, a number of contractors had submitted the reports which the technical committee was studying. Mr Mubanga said other contractors were yet to submit their reports so that they could be scrutinised by the committee. The process, he said was under way now and this is why the operations in Kitwe and Mufulira had not resumed. The technical committee, he added, wanted to look into all the reports before making a final decision on who can be awarded contracts to start operations at the mines. Mr Mubanga said once the technical committee concluded the process, government and Mopani Copper Mine would allow the operations to resume. He said the ball was in the hands of government and Mopani to ensure the process was concluded for operations to resume.
