Dear Editor

JUST when the world seems held down by lockdowns caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, a Zambian based in the United States of America, Peter Limata has given the country something to be proud of by earning the school he teaches Emerson Elementary School a $25, 000 donation on the famous Ellen DeGeneres show.

Mr Limata, who teaches first graders and is also the school soccer team coach appeared on the show after the media learnt of his online teaching programme that he created “Story Time With Mr Limata” where he shares stories with his students.

The North Oakland-based teacher says he came up with the idea of sharing stories with his students after schools were closed due to the Coronavirus.

“I wanted to connect with my students and give them something to focus on amidst the

Covid-19 lockdown,” he says with a bright smile when asked by show host Ellen DeGeneres on why he went to lengths of doing the story time programme that is also on YouTube.

Mr Limata who aside of offering his teaching services has also shouldered financial expenses and transport costs for his students driving them for games using personal money.

For his outstanding work Ellen DeGeneres in partnership with “Box Tops For Education donated $25, 000 to be used to buy books, sports and technology equipment.

He also received a $25, 000 as appreciation for paying expenses out of pocket. Mr Limata who couldn’t hide his happiness at receiving both donations thanked the show host for her generosity.

Unlike other African nationals cited for wrong activities causing their countries to be blacklisted and cut off from being awarded visas, we have one of our own making us proud and putting the Zambian flag high.
