RELIEF FOOD SENT TO NAKONDE

GOVERNMENT has sent relief food to Covid-19 infected Nakonde to aid the vulnerable and families of the patients, Muchinga Province Minister Malozo Sichone has confirmed.

The relief food was sent through Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU). Mr Sichone said the DMMU sent 2, 500 bags of mealie meal to families of those that had tested Covid-19 positive. The mealie meal were in 12.5 kg packs. “To aid families of these affected by novel coronaviru­s and vulnerable people of Nakonde during this difficult time, Government through DMMU has given mealie meal to Nakonde Districts,” Mr Sichone said. He said Government would continue supporting those affected with COVID-19 and the front- liners in the fight against the pandemic. “We would like to encourage people of Nakonde that tested positive not to run away, COVID-19 is not a death sentence,” the Minister said. And Mr Sichone said training of border officials had been concluded while Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and their Tanzanian counterpar­ts had also concluded formalitie­s for movement of essential commoditie­s. He said Government had put in place measures to facilitate movement of essential commoditie­s from Nakonde to Kapiri Mposhi under escort to avoid unnecessar­y stoppages by truck drivers. “The temporal closure of the border was necessitat­ed by the need to train border officials and screening which has been concluded and with that movement of essential commoditie­s will soon resume,” Mr Sichone said.
