Deport ‘racist’ Chinese national, immigration told

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

THE Patriotic Front (PF) member in Lusaka has urged the Immigration Department to deport the Chinese national, the owner of Lantian restaurant who is accused of racial discrimination against the Zambians.

PF students mobilisation coordinator, Ibrahim Mwamba appealed to the department to ensure that justice prevailed in the matter. “As a patriotic Zambian youth and believer in our country’s sovereignty as well as a strong advocate for equality and human rights, I am compelled to formally engage your department in seeking justice to prevail in this matter.

“This is despite the victim, a fellow black Zambian national opting not to reveal his identity we are determined to follow this abuse to the latter.

“Credit must be given to the Lusaka Mayor for the timely and decisive action against the barbaric behaviour of the Chinese national who turned away people based on race,” he said.

Mr Mwamba said the law was not blind to the moral fiber of society and this was why the Zambians must stand up against such inhuman behaviour being perpetrated by foreign nationals who were supposed to respect laws and the people of this nation.

With this letter, he said, we are demanding for the immediate deportation of the culprit to the country of origin, racial discrimination is a crime in Zambia just like anywhere else and to make the matters worse, the victim is a Zambian national who deserves to be respected and treated with decency in his country.

Mr Mwamba said not too long ago the whole world witnessed how South Africans living outside that country suffered the consequences of the xenophobic attacks on foreigners in their country and to prevent this from happening here, a strong signal must be sent to the Chinese community in Zambia whose population keep increasing due to the favourable bilateral conditions under which two governments thrive.

“That said, discrimination remains an evil to modern society and the global village as the world is fondly called.
