Covid-19 has no political ideology, M’membe told

- By PETER SICHALI

SOCIALIST Party leader Fred M’membe is misplaced to think socialism is the only political ideology that can help win the fight against Covid-19, says PF Northern Province Youth Secretary Chanda Nsofu. Mr Nsofu said the novel coronavirus did not favour any political ideology and therefore it was wrong to think socialism could ever help curb the pandemic. He said Mr M’membe must stop deceiving the public that socialist countries had been spared by Covid-19 because of their political ideology. “Covid-19 favours no political ideology. Both capitalist and socialist countries have been greatly affected by Covid-19 and Mr M’membe must stop misleading people with his outdated socialist ideologies,” Mr Nsofu said. He said Covid-19 favours no religion, race, gender or economic status adding that Christian countries like Zambia had been affected as much as the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mr Nsofu said the world’s richest countries like the United States of America, France and China had been affected as much as the world’s poorest countries. “Black people have been affected as much as white people. Poor people have been affected as much as rich people and men have been affected as much as women,” he said. Mr Nsofu said Mr M’membe must know that no political ideology would save any country from Covid-19. “The only thing that will save any country from Covid-19 is practicing preventive measures such as maintaining social distancing, washing hands regularly, sanitising hands and masking up,” he said. Mr Nsofu said the PF government was equal to the task in fighting Covid-19 and that preventive measures were adequate. He added that it was, therefore, misplaced for the socialist leader to accuse Government of not doing enough to address the pandemic.
