Transparency over Covid-19 aid cheers NGO

THE Alliance for Accountability Advocate Zambia (AAAZ) in partnership with other civil society organisations who form the Accountability Mechanism has commended government’s action to publicly publish the Covid-19 donations.

AAAZ Executive Director Luchembe Chilufya said this was an integral step in ensuring transparency and accountability of the resources.

During a public health emergency like Covid-19, he said, it was vital to maintain strong accountability of resources.

Mr Chilufya said an efficient, effective and accountable Covid-19 response required transparency of all donations and allocated resources as well as related disbursements and expenditures at all levels of government.

“We wish to reiterate the need for Government to implement effective accountability systems which monitor and track the disbursement of donated resources to ensure that it reaches the intended beneficiaries including the youth, people living with disabilities and other marginalised groups.

Given the increasing number of health personnel who are testing positive for Covid-19, it is crucial that the donated and procured items particularly Personal Protective Equipment’s and Infection Prevention kits be adequately supplied and distributed to every frontline health care worker to prevent exposure to the virus and promote confidence in the citizens about their safety as they access essential health care services,” Mr Chilufya said.
