ZAMBIA women national soccer team striker Rachael Nachula has joined Spanish side Zaragoza Club de Fútbol Femenino.

The Spanish side confirmed on its website saying in its quest to bolster its squad for 2020/2021, it had added Nachula to its ranks.

The Zambian international joins Zaragoza on a two-year contract following her impressive display in the 2019 calendar year in which she helped Zambia to a historical Olympic qualification as well a good showing in the COSAFA in which they minted gold.

“Zambian international Rachael Nachula, new addition for season 2020/21. Welcome, Nachula!” The club wrote on its website.

“In order to continue to make a competitive squad this season and achieve the desired promotion, Zaragoza CFF takes over the services of the African forward Rachael Nachula (14-01-19).”

“The Zambian-born player is an international for her country. Their squad is the only African team that qualified to play next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.”

Nachula emerged top scorer at the 2019 Cosafa Women championship including a record eight goals in one match where Zambia beat Mauritius 15-0.

The Zambian international scooped the top scorer’s award with 10 goals at the COSAFA 2019 edition.

Nachula follows in the footsteps of Barbara Banda who was previously on the books of EDF Logrono in Spain but now plies her trade in China.

She will be part of the national team affectionately known as Kopa Queens that is set to take centre stage at the Tokyo Olympics next year following a historic qualification.

And Club captain Noel Nkhoma said signing the agreement with the developer was a milestone in the history of Lusaka Golf Club.

Nkhoma noted that in over 30 years, the golf club has failed to implement any projects because of some “politicking.”

“We have been trying to refurbish the golf club for over 30 years and all the time we stand, we have court cases and injunctions. This is the first time we have reached this far and signed for the project to commence,” he said.

He said the project will not only benefit the golf club but the entire country as it will create employment and also its location being in the prime area of Lusaka.

“What we are witnessing today is a milestone in the history of Lusaka Golf Club, from the time we started the project two years ago we are seeing the fruits of the efforts that has gone into this project,” Nkhoma said.

He thanked the patron of the club, President Edgar Lungu who has offered guidance through the ministries of Lands, Tourism and Sports.

“The facelift will boost the earning capacity of the golf club. It will bring in some financial leverage, we used to have 3, 000 members but today we only have a 1, 000 plus,” Nkhoma said.

And Time Projects Zambia director Heinrich Malan said he was excited that after one year and six months of background work the project can proceed.

“We are from Botswana and we have worked in Zambia for 30 years. I just want to thank the Lusaka Golf Club for their input and today we have arrived at this .We shall give the club house a new era and in the process work with the building committee to do what the members want,” Malan said.

Malan said the project will be done in three phases starting with upgrading the course.

And club trustee Patrick Chisanga said he was confident that the developer will deliver on the mandate that they have been given.

Chisanga and former Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda are the trustees and are custodians of the club.
