PLUNDERERS MUST NOT BE PART OF LEADERSHIP - MUMBI

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

THOSE

who are known for plundering the resources of this nation by engaging in underhand methods such as corruption to enrich themselves must never be allowed to vie for nay position in this country, says good governance activist Edward Mumbi.

And Mr. Mumbi says those at Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) who are using their positions to destabilize the

PF by chasing after ministers with frivolous corruption cases must step down and wait for their promised change of Government.

Mr. Mumbi, in an interview said all those vying for office in the 2021 election but know that they have skeletons in their closet must not be allowed to stand if the country is serious with fighting corruption and plunder of national resources.

He said there are some people who were known for auctioning the country to the highest bidders and that putting

such people in charge of the country’s resources would be suicidal as looting will be the order of the day.

He said there was need to have a relook at the privatisation of the mines where companies were sold for a song and the Saturnia Regna Pension Fund saga which had left retirees destitute and root out all those involved in the mischief from contesting the 2021 elections.

“This who have been mentioned in corruption must never be allowed to hold public office. Hakainde Hichilema himself is linked with the mischief surrounding privatisation of the mines. Not only that, he is also involved in Saturnia Regna Pension Fund which has left retirees destitute. People like that must not vie for public office if indeed our intention is to clean up this country,” Mr. Mumbi said.

And Mr. Mumbi has wondered why the ACC is turning a blind eye to clear cut cases bordering on corruption yet pursing Cabinet Ministers.

“A criminal act remains a criminal act even if it reaches 20 years. The Saturnia case is very alive and ACC can still act upon it. There are even reports to that effect. Why can’t the Saturnia case be released? It becomes extremely difficult to understand the operations of the ACC.

“ACC must not be selective in their operations. Even if they have been promised jobs in the job of Government changing, they should not abuse the public institution. The noble thing they should do is to resign from those positions and then go and wait for the change of Government. Let other people to work because there are some many cases which need ACC to investigate and tell us how far they have gone,” he said.
