FRED M’membe, former Post Newspaper Editor in Chief has been arrested by police in Chinsali for being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime, theft and fraudulently appropriation of
property.
Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police, Joel Njase confirmed Mr M’membe’s arrest in a statement yesterday and said the development followed a complaint from Lewis Mosho, the liquidator of the Post Newspaper.
FRED M’membe, former Post Newspaper Editor in Chief has been arrested by police in Chinsali for being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime, theft and fraudulently appropriation of property.
Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police, Joel Njase confirmed Mr M’membe’s arrest in a statement yesterday and said the development followed a complaint from Lewis Mosho, the liquidator of the Post Newspaper.
Mr Njase said Mr M’membe was charged for being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime, fraudulently appropriation of property and theft.
“Be informed that Fred M’membe has been officially arrested and charged for fraudulently appropriation of property by director contrary to section 324(a) of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia, theft by Director contrary to section 272 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia and being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime C/sec 71 of the forfeiture of proceeds od crime Act number 19 of 2010,” he said.
Mr Njase said Mr M’membe had been released on bond and would appear in court soon.
Police last year recorded a warn and caution statement from Mr M’membe for the offence of being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
This is in connection with a (property) building located in Mwika Village of Sub- Chief Mwabawankulungwe in Senior Chief Nkula of Shiwang’andu District.
This followed the complaint made on June 19th 2019 by post Newspapers limited liquidator Lewis Mosho.
Liquidator of Post Newspapers Lewis Mosho on June 19 2019 requested Police to protect and investigate property belonging to its Editor in Chief Fred M’membe located in Mwika area in Chief Nkula’s area in Chinsali suspected to have been obtained from proceeds of crime.
