Spanish deals excite FAZ

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says it is proud of Shepolopolo strikers, Hellen Mubanga and Rachel Kundananji who have clinched deals to join Spanish Club Real Zaragoza.

Mubanga, a 2019 Cosafa senior women’s championship player of tournament and Nachula signed three-year deals with the Spanish side which features in the second tier of the Spanish Premier Division.

And in an interview, FAZ vice president Rix Mweemba said the two national team players’ move to Spain shows how women’s football has improved in Zambia.

Mweemba said Mubanga and Nachula who play for Red Arrows and Green Buffaloes respectively will inspire other girls to work hard to go to Europe.

“This is very exciting these are the goals we have been talking about to say in the next few years we shall be reaping lot of good for all our women football and for all youth football.

“These are the results we are reaping and for many years to come ahead of us, as long as we continue with the developmental projects being implemented, we will be able to reap more chances for our girls and we shall see our players getting lucrative deals outside,” Mweemba said.

He urged the girls not to lose focus and continue working hard as they represent Zambia in a foreign country.

Their move brings to five the number of national team members playing outside the country, with others including Barbra Banda, Misozi Zulu and Rachael Kundananji, who both play for BIIK Kazygurt, the 2017-18 Kazakstan women’s league champions.

Meanwhile, Mweemba has congratulated Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu for winning their third Bundesliga title with Red Bull Salzburg who clinched its seventh consecutive championship after beating TSV Hartberg 3-0 in Sunday’s league action at Red Bull Arena.
