HH IS PETTY ON NRC ISSUANCE

-

Dear

Dear Editor,

Editor,

WE are disappointed that UPND life president Hakainde Sammy Hichilema made a cheap publicity stunt by storming the Department of National Registration and Citizenship.

With all due respect, his visit

Editor,

was unnecessary because he is a nonentity in the file and hierarchy of government. NRC issuance is a continuous process irrespective of whether there are elections or not.

Mr Hichilema has never found sober ways of discussing national issues amicably. Mr Hichilema should be reminded that the government has never stopped the insuing of the identity documents and he can verify this by visiting the nearest NRC office.

The mobile registration exercise which is yet to commence is not a substitute to the conventional one. If he or indeed is a caring leader he can tell his relatives in his village to go to the registration centre in numbers.

It is also wrong for Mr Hichilema to publicly issue tribal sentiments on Facebook. On his Facebook post, Mr Hichilema was lobbying for issuance of NRCs in three provinces where he commands popularity. We thought Mr Hichilema has repented from his inherent tribalism now he cannot pretend more.

Mr Hichilema and his surrogates have claimed the PF has lost popularity in the Northern block. We wonder why he is scared that the people in the Northern block are registering in numbers. Even if NRCs were issued in his stronghold, he will still cry foul, that's how petty he is.

Alas, HH is a cry baby and he has started rehearsing how he will weep his pending defeat at the hands of President Lungu and the PF.

He knows his defeat is imminent as the PF support base has stretched to North-Western and Western provinces.

Mr Hichilema therefore must stop harassing the civil servants and he should let them do their work. We know he has sensed his defeat and he wants to find every excuse to justify the pending loss.

Mr Hichilema should also be reminded that government institutions should not be used as campaign grounds and his political excitement should be confined to social media his rightful place.

We therefore condemn Mr Hichilema's storming of NRC offices and tribal statements he made on Facebook.

MARVIN CHANDA BERI, Youth Rights Activist, Chongwe.
