HH UPSETS PRESIDENT LUNGU

- By PRISCA LUMINGU-BANDA in Livingstone

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu was upset when he heard UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema telling the people of Chama during a radio show that he has neglected them and was busy wasting time talking to people of Southern, Western and North Western provinces instead of working for those who voted for him.

“I was very upset when I heard on radio that in Chama the leader of UPND was telling the people that Lungu is wasting time talking to people in Southern, NorthWestern and Western instead of working for you who voted for him. He said I will not finish the roads, bridges in Chama because I am busy working there, so you vote for me. I was upset because that is very unfair,” President Lungu said.

President Lungu said it was unfair for Mr. Hichilema to tell the people of Chama that he was developing the provinces where people did not vote for him while neglecting where he got votes.

President Lungu said this when he met over 25 headmen in Livingstone yesterday.

He said what people should understand was that he has the mandate to take development to all the provinces including the areas where he did not get votes.

“I am interested because Zambia is my constituency, I will continue to work with you because I want to bring development to all the corners of this country,” he said

Mr Lungu said he would not be distracted by people who wanted to divide the country with tribal politics.

He said he did not care if some members of parliament did not want to work with him because he would continue to work with the traditional leadership in the provinces to bring development.

President Lungu also urged the headmen to talk to their members of parliament and urge them to be engaging the Ministers for different developmental projects in their chiefdoms.

He said it was unfortunate that some MPs had decided not to engage government on challenges being faced in their constituencies and so that people should not vote for PF in 2021.

And speaking earlier on behalf of the headmen, Headman Makunka Peter Malambo said the cheifdoms were facing challenges of boundaries which needed to be addressed by the government.

Mr. Malambo also said there was need to address the road infrastructure in chiefdoms.

He said other issues which needed governments attention were late delivery of farming inputs, NRC registrations among others.
