NORTH-WEST RECORDS 22 COVID-19 CASES
NORTHWESTERN province has 22 cases of Covid-19 out of 461 individuals tested so far, the Daily Nation has learnt.
This came to light during the handover of medical equipment and assorted items donated towards the fight against Covid-19.
Lumwana Mine donated the items in Solwezi.
North-western province deputy Permanent Secretary, Douglas Ngimbu, therefore reminded all stakeholders not to drop the guard against Covid19 pandemic.
“As you may be aware, we have continued to record new cases, bringing the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases to 1,632 at national level while North western province has recorded 22 cases,” he said.
Mr Ngimbu commended the mining company for the gesture saying it will go a long way in protecting the health of the people.
He said the provincial administration was aware of the pledge of supplies valued at US$340,000 at national level, US$100,000 for the province and US90,000 for Kalumbila district respectively.
Lumwana Mine Sustainability manager, Christopher Mukala, said that as a way of supplementing Government efforts, the mining firm had also constructed an incinerator at Solwezi General Hospital at a total cost of K250,000.
He said the mining company has distributed face masks in surrounding areas of Kalumbila and continued sensitizing communities.
Lumwana, he said, had established hand wash stations in schools as well as public places among others.
“Let me also reiterate our commitment to completing the full rehabilitation of the Nkulumazhiba Covid-19 referral centre in Kalumbila district. This will include power and water connection,” he said.
