Lungu calls for sustained ties with Malawi.

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has called for sustained bilateral ties with Malawi.

The President said Zambia and Malawi have shared cordial relations over the years.

The Head of State said this through Defence Minister Davies Chama who had represente­d him at the inaugurati­on of Malawi’s Sixth President Lazarous Chakwera in Malawi yesterday.

Mr. Chama said President Lungu had sent him to deliver a message of solidarity to the people of Malawi

And Dr Chakwera has thanked President Edgar Lungu for sending a representa­tive to witness his inaugurati­on ceremony.

Dr Chakwela said he spoke to President Lungu on Sunday and he was grateful for the support.

He has said Malawi and Zambia will continue working together for the benefit of the two countries.

Dr Chakwera said this when he held a meeting with Defence Minister, Davies Chama, who represente­d President Lungu at the inaugurati­on.

During the meeting, the two discussed issues affecting the two countries.

Speaking during the colourful inaugurati­on ceremony in Lilongwe, Dr. Chakwera promised to fight corruption and laziness.

Dr. Chakwera also said he would fight donor dependence as it has made the country poor.

He said his administra­tion will fight incompeten­ce and tribalism in the public sector.

Dr. Chakwera said there would be no new Malawi if the citizens do not take part in reconstruc­ting the country.

He said citizens should stop looking at themselves as job seekers but as employers.

Dr. Chakwera won the June 23, 2020 Presidenti­al election by over 58 percent ousting the immediate past President Peter Mutharika.
