UPND OKAYS LUNGU BOOING

- BY MULENGA MUSONDA

THE booing of President Edgar Lungu in Monze was a reaction to the police and the Patriotic Front cadres removing UPND campaign posters, UPND deputy spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has said.

In justifying the unruly conduct of UPND cadres, Mr Mweetwa also said the opposition party had to show the President that they were citizens with rights.

"We as the people, will indicate to President Lungu that we are here, we are UPND, that's why they were clad in regalia and since you are pulling down our regalia we'll put on regalia and show you Police, that even in the presence of Edgar Lungu we are citizens who have a right to be seen where we belong" he said.

Mr Mweetwa said the residents behaved in such a manner not because of the President's visit but because they were frustrated at the conduct of the police.

Despite the acrimonious behaviour towards President Edgar Lungu by residents in Monze, Mr Mweetwa said the president should be happy for being received in an opposition stronghold.

"And President Lungu and anybody sensible in PF should be happy that a president can go into an area and is received by an opposition, it shows that democracy is still alive in Zambia," he said.

The Choma Central MP also applauded the Police who he accused of working with PF Cadres in bringing down UPND Campaign Posters for working closely with UPND Cadre's in ensuring that the visit by the president was smooth.

"Those youths in Muchinga or Luapula, or any other place would do well to know what they may not know that actually the UPND youths worked closely with Police in Monze to ensure that the people who had come in large numbers did not become disruptive," he said.

Mr Mweetwa was speaking during a media briefing in Choma on Monday.
