UPND MUST APOLOGIZE FOR THE BEHAVIOR OF THEIR CADRES IN MONZE

-

Dear editor,

Being a former UPND youth leader, I am 100% sure that the unfortunate incident that occurred in Monze District where President Edgar Chagwa Lungu had gone on National duty had the blessing of the Party leadership in long serving Member of Parliament Mr Jack Mwiimbu and the Party President Mr Hakahinde Hichilema.

Youths in these political parties do not do anything without the leadership approval, in fact prior to the President’s visit to Southern Province, Mr Mwiimbu issued a retrogressive statement in which he refused to welcome the President in his constituency, why can’t we conclude that he organized those thugs to humiliate a sitting President on developmental tour?

President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has taken development to all corners of the country without a sense of segregation and a normal Member of Parliament should be happy with such a President who care more for everyone including those that chose not to vote for him. Civilized Members of Parliament like Ikelenge MP Hon. Elijah Muchima, welcomes the President when he takes developmental projects to their constituencies because they understand that such development will benefit their people and not satisfying HH in Lusaka by staying away.

It’s unfortunate, that we have politically aligned NGO’s like Gears led by UPND Siavonga Aspiring Candidate Mr Macdonald Chipenzi who also can’t condemn such behavior. The cadres were organized, majority put on UPND regalia and splashed symbols of UPND to a President who was on official duty and not campaigning. The so called electoral expert under the umbrella of UPND is happy with the incidence but would be the first one to speak if it happened to Mr HH. He who comes to equity, must come with clean hands Mr Electoral expert.

The danger with such incidences is that, other provinces like Muchinga, Northern, Luapula, Eastern and Copperbelt where PF is very strong may treat Mr. Hakahinde Hichilema even worse. Therefore, it’s incumbent upon himself to do the right thing, condemn and apologize so that all things can remain equal. At this stage, political leaders must be sensitive to such acts which will start fueling violence as we approach the 2021 general elections.
