UPND harassing officers issuing NRCs - Kamba

THERE is evidence of UPND officials instructing its members in Southern Province to harass National Registration Officers, the Patriotic Front (PF) in Lusaka has said.

PF Lusaka Province secretary Kennedy Kamba said a video had gone viral showing a UPND official, instructing cadres to harass officers issuing NRCs.

Mr Kamba said the said video which had gone viral led to the arrest of the party official for inciting violence.

“We all recently saw a video on social media where a UPND official was captured telling people to beat up officers from the department of the National Registration Office. There is a man actually who has been arrested for inciting such violence,” he said.

He was reacting to the sentiments by UPND Choma Central Member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa that President Edgar Lungu lied that National Registration Officers were being harassed in Southern Province.

But Mr Kamba said the amount of disrespect on President Lungu was provocative and unacceptable.

“So who is lying between Mweetwa and the Republican President? It will be foolish of Mweetwa to think that Zambians are so gullible. The UPND should be ashamed actually that they have a deputy spokesperson who is busy lying to the nation.

“We warn Mweetwa and his friends to stop taking President Lungu’s tolerance and political maturity for granted. As the PF we warn him and his friends that we will not take kindly to the UPND’s insatiable appetite for falsehood,” Mr Kamba said.
