Kaniki women get agro kit

A SOLAR egg incubator and a solar drip irrigation set have been handed over to the women of Chifubu Constituen­cy in Ndola as an empowermen­t scheme.

Gender Minister, Elizabeth Phiri, said Government was empowering women to exploit opportunit­ies as well as fully participat­e in the economic developmen­t of the country. Ms Phiri said she was pleased to hand over the 440 egg capacity solar incubator and the solar drip irrigation system to the women cooperativ­es in Chifubu. The handover ceremony took place in Kaniki area in Chifubu constituen­cy. he said the equipment was procured under the Agricultur­al Developmen­t through Value Chain Enhancemen­t project (ADVANCE). She said the equipment was climate smart technologi­es that used solar energy and was ideal in ensuring that citizens were engaged in productive economic activities throughout the year even with climate change at play. The Minister added that the empowermen­t was an avenue for agricultur­al income diversific­ation for the women folk. And Chifubu Member of Parliament (MP) Frank Ng'ambi said the equipment wold change the lives of the people for the better. Dr Ng'ambi stated that there was a lot of vulnerabil­ity among the womenfolk in Kaniki, which was a predominan­tly farming area and thus, the equipment was “life-saving. “He encouraged the women in the area to form cooperativ­es so that they would receive empowermen­t and participat­e in the attainment and creation of wealth in the country. Nyawa Women in Developmen­t Coordinato­r Administra­tion Silanda Ntazana thanked Government for their donation stating that the women trained in various agricultur­al skills lacked agricultur­al equipment to support their works.
