Litunga, BRE Kuta only authorities to comment on Baroste agreement - Lungu
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says the only authority that has power and mandatory to comment on the Baroste agreement of 1964 is the Litunga and the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE).
President Edgar Lungu further disclosed that it’s only the Litunga alone who can dissolve the Barotseland agreement of 1964 because it’s only him who signed the treaty.
President Lungu said this last night in Sioma at County lodge which is built next to
Zambezi river where he was lodging.
He told his cabinet ministers and party members last evening that the Barotseland Agreement of 1964 was signed between First Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda and Sir Mwanawina Lewanika and the British government as a witness.
President Lungu has since advised people trying to seek audience with him over the agreement to go through the Litunga and the BRE Kuta before meeting him.
The Head of state added that he will not recognise any group or small political parties that are bent on creating confusion over the Barotse agreement without following normal procedure.
The people of Barotseland , Chiefs and youths should engage the BRE Kuta not me. It’s only the BRE Kuta that has the mandate to engage me over the Barotseland Agreement of 1964.
He said as President of Zambia, he will reach consensus with the responsible authority who is the Litunga and the BRE, adding that the Litunga and the people of Barotseland are also part of one Zambia One nation.
