Covid-19 claims 6 more lives

SIX more Covid-19 associated deaths have been recorded in the country in the last 24 hours bringing the total to 134.

Health Minister, Chitalu Chilufya said five of these were BIDs (brought in dead) cases at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka while one was a patient brought in very ill at Kalulushi General Hospital who later died.

Dr Chilufya said this during the Covid-19 update yesterday .

Dr Chilufya also said the country recorded 206 new Covid-19 cases bringing the cumulative total to 3, 779 and 18 patients were on oxygen with two critically ill.

He said President Edgar Lungu has since directed for enhanced community engagement and risk communicat­ion to ensure behavioura­l change among citizens to stem the spread of the pandemic.

“In the last 24 hours we recorded five Covid-19 associated deaths. five were BID cases at UTH while one was a patient who was brought very ill at Kalulushi General Hospital and later died,” he said.

Dr Chilufya said 11 Covid-19 patients were discharged bringing the number of recoveries to 1, 688.

He also announced that results for over 300 Members of Parliament and National Assembly staff who were tested for Covid-19 on Wednesday would be ready by today.

Dr Chilufya urged the public to seriously adhere to preventive measures against Covid-19 following a surge in new cases.
