No civil war coming in 2021, Mushanga tells Church

- By KETRA KALUNGA

THERE is no civil war coming to Zambia as the country has been holding peaceful elections since independence and even next year’s elections will be peaceful, Central Province Minister, Sydney Mushanga has said. Mr Mushanga was responding to Central African Presbyterian Church Reverend Bernard Nyirenda who during intercession prayed that the country should not experience civil war during the 2021 general elections. He reassured the church during an induction mass for Rev. Duckson Kumwenda on Sunday that President Edgar Lungu has assured the people of Zambia that 2021 general elections would be peaceful, free, and fair. The Bwacha Member of Parliament (MP) said there would be no extraordinary event that would happen during next year’s general elections because the elections would be held peacefully as assured by the Head of State. “There will be nothing extraordinary about elections for next year, the only extraordinary thing that will happen during next year’s elections is that others will win, others will lose, that is the only extraordinary thing that will happen especially those that are used to losing, will loss, those that are used to winning, will win, simple,” he said. Mr. Mushanga has since urged the church not to entertain violent politicians because nothing would stop such people from being violent even if they formed government. He called on the church to scrutinize politicians that would be frequenting churches during the election period as most of them would be doing so with hidden agendas. “Soon, politicians would be patronizing churches even wanting to sleep in churches for overtime prayers which are not there, time is approaching, scrutinize such people, we need genuine politicians in government,” said Mr. Mushanga.
