Dundumwezi viable economic hub - DC
GOVERNMENT has called for support and cooperation from people of Dundumwezi in its quest to open up the dormant tourism sector in the area.
Kalomo District Commissioner, Brenda Mwenda said President Edgar Lungu desires to see Dundumwezi as a viable economic hub not only in agriculture but tourism as well.
Ms Mwenda who led the community in climbing Dundumwezi hill with Chief Chikanta, says she had no time for honeymoon but serious works as President Lungu had already set the way forward by commissioning the Kalomo- Dundumwezi-Itezhi-itezhi- Namwala climate resilient road.
She says people can only realise President Lungu’s agenda for working on the Dundumwezi road if the area opens up to other economic sectors such as tourism for job creation, leading to improved livelihood.
And Chief Chikanta of the Tonga speaking people in Kalomo has called for viable tourism marketing strategies to market Dundumwezi as a tourist attraction destination.
He has challenged the local people to take part in appreciating their natural resources by working with government in promoting the tourism sector in the area. Chief Chikanta, who is also the Southern Province Council of Chiefs Chairperson, says tourism must start with local people by exploiting what they have.
And Speaking on behalf of Chief Siachitema, Senior Headman Siachitema observed that local people were so much obsessed with myths surrounding the hotspring and the Dundumwezi Hill than appreciating the economic value of the attraction.
