‘Give youths key positions to avoid political violence’

- By MULENGA MUSONDA

A CIVIL Society Organisation in Choma , 'The Voice' has called on all Political Parties in the country to involve youths and offer them key positions in their parties so they can refrain from political violence.

Faith Siatubotu the Organisation's Executive Director whose mandate is to end political violence and tribalism in the Country said instead of using youths to commit violent atrocities against political opponents, Political parties should appoint them to key positions in the parties.

"How are we going to build our youths for a better Zambia when all we can think about is to use them as pawns for political violence?"

"Paying youths, in whatever way, to engage in political violence is unwise because the consequences will affect all of us, even the people funding and their relatives," she said.

Ms Siatubotu urged other political parties to emulate the Socialist Party that has taken strides in appointing youths in strategic positions of the party.

"I commend what the Socialist Party has done, they have created a great opportunity for the youths to learn and be leaders because they know that they need to build the youths for a better tomorrow."

"I think all political parties should emulate this move in order to get the youths involved. This is the only way to building great leadership because youths will instead use ideas and manifestos in defeating their opponents rather than rifles and machetes," she said
