THE United Party for National Development (UPND) cannot survive without Hakainde Hichilema because he is the main financier of the party, former UPND Western Province chairperson Musangu Njamba has said.
Mr Njamba said in as much as the UPND president was not the sole funder of the party, it could be difficult for the party to survive without him as what came from sponsors were ‘coins’.

Mr Njamba said in as much as the UPND president was not the sole funder of the party, it could be difficult for it to survive without him as what came from sponsors were “coins”.
He said Mr Hichilema had single-handedly sponsored the party and that any donation from well-wishers was just a token.
"UPND is not HH inf act Mr Hichilema has helped UPND a lot, he is even using his own money to sponsor party activities," Mr Njamba said.
Mr Njamba, who was recently relieved of duties as
UPND Western Province chairperson, said Mr Hichilema had helped UPND to be where it is now and it can be difficult for the party to stand without him.
"There are so many political parties that were there before UPND was formed but there are they now? Where is United Liberal Party?" Mr Njamba asked.
He said UPND could have been long gone if it were not for Mr Hichilema.
And Mr Njamba said UPND in Western Province was still intact.
Mr Njamba attributed the loss in the just ended by-elections to distribution of relief food by Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit.
He said the party in Western Province was stronger than how it was in 2016 and that the recent results were not a reflection of the situation on the ground.
