Mobile registration staff paid
GOVERNMENT has paid the K22 million arrears in allowances for staff that were engaged in the 2015- 2016 mobile National Registration Card (NRC) exercise, Home Affairs Minister, Stephen Kampyongo has said.
The minister has also warned against any disruption to the 2020 mobile registration exercise by people purporting to be monitoring the process.
Mr Kampyongo announced at a press briefing yesterday that Government had settled the arrears of officers who were engaged in the mobile issuance of NRCs.
"May I take this opportunity to make mention that the arrears for allowances for some officers who worked during the 2015/2016 mobile registration exercise have since been paid," Mr Kampyongo said.
On the 207 officers in the Copperbelt reported to have not been paid yet their balance of K15,000 each, the Minister said the delay in paying them was due to wrong bank details that needed to be corrected in the system.
He however said the money for the 207 officers had also been released.
Mr Kampyongo warned individuals who have given themselves the task to monitor the recently launched national mobile registration exercise that they risked being arrested.
He directed police officers deployed in the registration exercise to deal firmly with any interference and any form of intimidation.
"No person regardless of affiliation should be allowed to disrupt the registration process," he said.
Mr Kampyongo said in as much as citizens have every right to ensure accountability in the delivery of Government services, the law did not allow disruption of such services.
He said his ministry was not working in isolation but collaborating with various stakeholders including provincial and district administrations where people were free to seek clarification.
