‘Expedite Kipushi one-stop border facility construction’
THE construction of a one-stop border facility at Kipushi in Mushindamo district should be expedited to enhance trade between Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
North-western Province Minister, Nathaniel Mubukwanu, said the facility was of great importance to the Government, hence the need to expedite the process.
He said once a one-stop facility was constructed, trade between Zambia and the neighbouring DRC would be enhanced.
Mr Mubukwanu said it is for this reason that Government had invested heavily in infrastructure development such as the road sector and air transport to take advantage of the country’s regional location to enhance trade with other countries.
“In terms of trade, we know that Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo are some of our neighbours whom we share the longest borders. Therefore, it is imperative that we invest in suitable state of art equipment that will be able to facilitate the easy movement of goods and services in region,” he said. The Minister said this when a team of experts from the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry and other Ministries called on him in Solwezi. He said the construction of a one-stop border facility in Mushuindamo district was a welcome move and assured of unwavering support to the project.
Mr Mubukwanu said Government had invested substantial amount of money in the Kipushi border road, stating that this must be matched by the appropriate facility at the border.
