THE Patriotic Front (PF) women in Central Province are praying for the quick recovery and good health of the Vice President, Inonge Wina, who tested positive for Covid-19.

Ms Wina tested positive for COVID-19 following the positive results of her daughter with whom she stays.

Central Province PF vice chairlady, Josephine Ng’ambi, said women wished the Vice-President a quick recovery so that she could continue to fully discharge her duties to the nation under the new normal “On behalf of women in Central province and indeed on my own behalf as the provincial vice chairlady, the Republic Vice President mama Inonge Wina a speedy recovery, mum we wish you well,” she said.

Ms Ng’ambi urged Zambians that were constantly playing jokes about the pandemic to start taking the disease seriously because it was real. She said people follow the health guidelines to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

“To all those that are doubting and making fun that Covid-19 is not real, Covid-19 is real, let’s be safe, let’s mask up each time we are in a public place and let’s maintain our social distance,” she said.

ABOUT 191 cattle in Ngabwe have been affected by the foot and mouth disease outbreak in four villages.

Meanwhile, over 4, 000 cattle risk being affected by the disease due to the illegal movement of livestock.

The farmers are reported to be treating their livestock using a mixture of soda and salt due to lack of funds to buy the vaccines and currently, only 90 out of the 191 affected animals had been vaccinated.

This is contained in the latest report on the foot and mouth disease resurgence in the district compelled by the department of veterinary services under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock obtained by the Daily Nation.

According to the report, the current disease occurrence was at a higher level than previously experienced in terms of the affected numbers of animals.

Investigations conducted this month revealed that some farmers and traders were illegally moving animals from the affected district into the Copperbelt.

Due to inadequate operational resources, the department was facing challenges in implementing the livestock movement restriction into and out of the district.

To curb the illegal movement of livestock, the department would require a combined operation with other stakeholders such as the department of wildlife and National Parks, local authority and the Zambia police service.

The report indicated that

members of staff had been operating under threat of magical powers by some illegal livestock mover while enforcing the livestock movement restrictions.

One worker became mentally ill after he attempted to enforce

regulations on illegal livestock dealers.

To curb the illegal movement of livestock, there is an urgent need to mobilize resources to constitute an anti-stock movement task force, said the report.
