Kafubu water quality improves
GOVERNMENT is impressed with the improvement in the quality of water being supplied to Ndola residents by Kafubu Water Supply and Sanitation Company (KWSC).
The water is being pumped from the Kafubu Dam and Minsundu water station.
Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Minister, Jonas Chanda says Kafubu Dam is the only treatment plant in the country using recycled water from treated sewer.
Dr Chanda however stated that that the Waste Water Treatment Plant was being rehabilitated to improve the quality of effluent being discharged from the sewer plant into the dam.
The minister said although the process was costly and complex, the water turbidity in the Kafubu River is within acceptable standards zero to five.
He said the plant was able to produce a turbidity of two, as there was no encroachment around the plant.
Dr Chanda said that the plant was the biggest on the Copperbelt, treating 85, 000 cubic meters of water per day.
Meanwhile, Dr Chanda added that the construction of the Kafulafuta Dam Water Supply Project would relieve pressure on the Kafubu Dam, as water would be provided to Ndola using an alternating mechanism.
He said l President Edgar Lungu wants to see more investments in the water sector in line with the country's Vision 2030, Seventh National Development Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals.
He said this was aimed at providing universal clean and safe water and sanitation services without leaving anyone behind. of within
