Solwezi resident aids inmates

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

A SOLWEZI resident, Ms Tukiya Lewila Moyo, has donated an assortment of items to Solwezi Central Correctional Facility.

The items included footwear, bathing soap, detergent pastes, salt, sanitary pads and chitenge materials for female inmates.

Presenting the donation, Ms Moyo said she was compelled to donate to the correctional facility as a way of fulfilling what the scripture says in Mathew 25:36, which states that “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

"The Bible is very clear where helping and visiting those in Correctional facilities is concerned, that is why I decided to come here and make this donation," Ms Moyo said.

She said as a patriotic citizen, she felt duty bound to supplement Government's efforts.

Ms Moyo said every citizen has a duty to assist because Government alone could not do everything.

And receiving the items, Solwezi Correctional Facility Chaplain, Levison Kananda, said the donation will go a long way in meeting some of the needs of the inmates especially the female ones.

Mr Kananda said some inmates come as far as Chavuma and that most of them were not visited by their relatives.

"So, it is through such donations that some of the needs for inmates are met," Mr Kananda said.

And speaking on behalf of the inmates, Esther Malata thanked Ms Moyo for the gesture.

"On behalf of my colleagues, I want to thank you for coming to our aid through this donation," she said.
