‘ONLY FAZ COUNCIL CAN EXPAND SUPER DIVISION’
IT’S
only the FAZ council which has powers to change the constitution to allow the expansion of the Super Division to 22-teams, General Secretary Adrian Kashala has said.
Kashala said FAZ respected its constitution and would only interfere with it through the legal provisions.
He said the number of clubs to compete in the Super Division is stipulated in the FAZ constitution and changing it would require the approval of the FAZ Council.
“We cannot just change the number of teams overnight. If that was the case we would have to go to the council and ask them to make amendments to the constitution because that is a constitutional matter,” Kashala said.
“We have the number of clubs defined in the constitution so it is not something we can just wake up and say we want to increase or reduce the number of clubs in the Super League.”
Meanwhile, FAZ said it will soon commence the disbursement of the money to its affiliates following the receipt of the first batch of Covid-19 relief funds from FIFA,
Kashala urged FAZ members to provide updated financial details to avoid funds being diverted or delayed in reaching the clubs.
He said affiliates will be expected to liaise with the finance department at FAZ to ensure that they receive their allocation.
“We have finally received the Covid-19 relief funds and will be advising our members on the schedule for disbursement of these funds. We will be providing the specifics of the allocation with the members directly,” Kashala said.
The first batch of FIFA Covid-19 funds is US$500, 000 while the same amount will be disbursed in January 2021.
FIFA will also provide a US$500, 000 allocation exclusively for women football.
And Kashala said Nakambala Leopards will face sanctions for their failure to honour their last league fixtures.
He said that fulfilment of fixtures was part of constitutional obligations for members at the beginning of each season.
