Dear Editor,

AS one of the beneficiaries of Youth Empowerment in form of a fuel tanker under the Ministry of Youth and Sport, I would like to say thank you President Edgar Lungu for your relentless efforts in making sure that the welfare of young people is well taken good care of looking at several brilliant Presidential initiatives meant to uplift the living standards of our youths and women regardless of our political affiliation.

I also want to thank the Minister of Youth and Sport Mr Emmanuel Mulenga for this great opportunity to access Youth Empowerment programmes under the ministry.

It will be wrong to overlook the efforts and determination of our cooperative team leader Charles Simusokwe and all the members that made it possible for us to be given a full tanker.

I wish to categorically state that

I have decided that once all legal processes, documentations are done and we become operational transporting fuel using our tanker given to us as Evergreen Cooperative my share should be given in full to Holy Saviour Parish Catholic Church in Kafue Estates which I hope will be used to assist my childhood traditional dancing and acting club called River Boys Club.

River Boys Club is one of the clubs run by the parish in Kafue whose aim is to identify and showcase talent among the youth keeping them away from vices such as:

1.. Drug Abuse

2.. Alcohol Abuse

3.. Criminal Gangs

4.. HIV AIDS

5.. Crime

6.. Prostitution

Having lived half my life in Kafue Estates, I’m aware that the tortoise pace at which Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia ( NCZ ) is struggling to operate, the closure of major companies such as Kafue Textiles of Zambia ( KTZ ) , Central Boat Builders and many more has surely ravaged the economy aspect of a once brilliant district boasting of young talent in abundance.

For years HOLY SAVIOUR CATHOLIC CHURCH has been standing out as the champion in keeping young people away from vices through various clubs run by the church.

You may wish to know that with the aforementioned closure of many industries in Kafue many young people including myself at some point between the years 1996 and 2000 became vulnerable and prone to vices likely to ruin my life but with the help of the Catholic Church through various clubs i was able to make it and become what i have become today.

The parish in Kafue Estates has been very instrumental in keeping young people away from vices through various clubs and groupings that focus on talent identification.

Kafue district boast of massive young talent that has surely carried the Zambian flag to many places starting from football, politicians, technocrats, businessmen and women, chess, tennis, golf and indeed public figures or celebrities not forgetting my appearance in the most highly decorated BIG BROTHER HOUSE reality show hence my decision to contribute myHshare in full to Holy Saviour Parish Catholic Church hoping to continue seeing talent coming out of Kafue.

I therefore wish to put it on record that I will have nothing to do with the collection of my share for I now surrender it in full to the parish in Kafue Estates.

I will attend all meetings, contribute when need arises be it verbal or financially to ensure smooth running of our fuel tanker as a member of the cooperative but I expect fellow members to respect my decision of giving my share in full to the parish which I believe will be used to improve the livelihood of my less privileged brothers and sisters in Kafue.

MAXWELL CHONGU,

PF DIE HARD.
