CB PF, UPND FACE OFF

…as Lufwanyama campaign heats up

- By ROGERS KALERO

THE opposition UPND wants to ride on fake promises in an attempt to ‘sneak’ into Government and then later abandon the people, Patriotic Front (PF) youths on the Copperbelt have said

PF Copperbelt youth chairman Don Mungulube said if the UPND were serious about improving people’s lives, they would have in a small way demonstrated to improve people’s lives instead of waiting to form Government ,

Mr Mungulube said this in reaction to UPND Copperbelt chairman, Elisha Matambo, who promised people in Lufwanyama district that if UPND forms Government, it would give them 10 bags of fertilizer, comprising five bags of urea and five of basal dressing.

During the campaign meetings for the September 17 local government by-elections, Mr Matambo also said UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema, would give farmers in Lufwanyama cattle to plough fields.

The two parties are the main contenders for the position of ward councilors in the Copperbelt rural district.

But Mr Mungulube said those were fake promises from the UPND whose interest was to form Government in order to serve personal interests and use power to settle personal and political scores.

He said if UPND was caring about the vulnerable people, the party with its wealthy leader would have found a small way of helping the poor in society instead of making sugar-coated promises during the time of election campaigns.

“If he really cared about the farmers in Lufwanyama, the Member of Parliament in the area is UPND, why didn’t he give the people fertilizer and cattle to plough the fields? Why wait for by-elections to make those sugar-coated promises?

Mr Mungulube urged UPND leaders to desist from using propaganda, lies and hate speech and instead prove that they were a responsible and caring party capable of looking after Zambians.

He said political parties should compete on ideologies and policies that would help alleviate the challenges facing the nation and the world as a whole.

The PF youth leader said it was unfair for UPND to continue exhibiting hatred against President Edgar Lungu, but when challenged to explain what they would do to revive the economy, they were failing to clearly put issues into perspective.
