Govt wants quality work from local contractors
Local Government Minister, Charles Banda, said Government wanted quality works from local firms if they were to be given more contracts.
The Minister said this when he inspected the construction of the 21-kilometer Lukupa- Mwamba-Kalense road in Kasa-ma district which is being upgraded to gravel standard.
"Prove yourself that you can deliver quality work if you are to be given more contracts by the Government," Mr Banda said.
Government, he said, wanted more local contractors given contracts to help grow the economy but noted that this would only happen if they demonstrated that they could deliver quality work.
Dr Banda has however hailed Construction World, a local contractor that is working on the project for showing quality work.
He however,urged the company to expedite the work so that people in the area could start using it.
The Minister, who also toured TAZARA market, commended Kasama Municipal Council for delivering quality work on the shelter at the market.
Dr Banda saidhas since urged other local authorities to emulate Kasama and do similar projects.
Meanwhile, Construction World Limited Site Engineer, Frank Mangena, pledged that his company would deliver the best road.
Mr Mangena explained that the company has so far done bus- clearing and sub-grading on the entire stretch.
A resident, Shepherd Kangwa, said the upgrading of the 21 kilometer road to gravel standard would ease the move- ment of people in the area.
Meanwhile, Northern Province Minister Chungu Bwalya said the repair of the road would open up the areas as, farmers would easily transport their produce to the market.
"We had applied for a Land Development Fund from the Ministry of Lands so that we can use it to open up new districts, this fund has however, not been forthcoming so we also appeal to you to help us to push for this fund" he said.
