Covid-19 cases drop

ZAMBIA has only 21 patients in various Covid-19 isolation centres with seven of them on oxygen, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has announced.

The country has registered a significan­t drop in infections, but Dr Chilufya urged the public not to drop the guard, but strictly adhere to covid-19 regulation­s despite the reduction in cases.

Dr Chilufya said the ministry remained committed to contact tracing, testing and isolating any covid-19 cases. He said this during the Covid-19 routine briefing, where he announced that the country had in the last 24 hours recorded 28 positive cases, bringing the cumulative number to 14, 830 while 19 have been discharged.

Dr Chilufya said there was need to re-engineer health system and identify public health security and also to shield the public from distortion. Dr Chilufya said President Edgar Lungu was grateful to the American Government for the continued support and solidarity to the country’s fight against Covid -19.

And US Charge d’ Affaires David Young announced the donation of laboratory equipment worth K10million which would strengthen and intensify the Covid -19 testing. Dr Aaron Shibemba, vHead of Pathology and Laboratory Services, said the laboratory equipment from the American Government would change the land scape of the response to Covid -19 in detecting the cases early.

Meanwhile, Dr Kunda Musonda , who is Head Laboratory Systems and Network also said the equipment would enhance efficiency and tackle the threats.
