Final students in banned teachers’ colleges transferre­d

FINAL-YEAR students in education colleges which have been denied accreditat­ion will be transferre­d to other colleges, the Teaching Council of Zambia has said.

TCZ public relations officer, Ngoza Malonga, said that third year students would not be affected as they would be transferre­d to other institutio­ns.

She said that students who graduated from the affected colleges and were already in employment would equally not be affected.

The TCZ has in line with the Teaching Profession Act No.5 of 2013 Part IV: section 42(3), denied accreditat­ion to 16 colleges of education for failure to meet the required standards.

The affected colleges were Immaculata College of Education of Kabwe, Brima Southrise College of Education in Monze, Mochipapa College of Education in Choma, Coweth College of Education also in Choma and Mosi-O-Tunya College of Education in Livingston­e.

Other colleges were Riverbank College of Education in Senanga, Mukuba College of Education Kitwe, Kasempa College of Education in Kitwe, Siakama College of Education of Kitwe , Mel College of Education also of alsoand Kitwe City College of Education among others.

The TCZ has also directed the affected institutio­ns to cease operations or risk being prosecuted pursuant to section 43 of the Teaching Profession Act No. 5 of 2013 on prohibitio­n of training without accreditat­ion according to this section,

"A College of Education that provides training or holds out as an accredited College of Education without accreditat­ion from the Council commits an offence and is liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding one (1) million penalty units.

"The Teaching Council of Zambia shall continue to implement its legal mandate of ensuring that all Colleges of Education comply without fail," she said.
