…as Malawi jet in for Chipolopolo friendly
BELGIUM-based Chipolopolo striker Fashion Sakala has been summoned by Zambia national team coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic for this month’s international friendly matches against Malawi, Kenya and South Africa.
Sakala, who scored KV Oostende's second goal in their 3-0 home victory over Royal Excel Mouscron in round eight of the Belgian Pro League on Monday confirmed the news on his official facebook page.
‘Micho’ ho earlier summoned 40 players from local clubs has invited seven players from Europe and six players from various African leagues.
The Serbian has summoned Thandi Mwape and Kabaso Chongo as the only confirmed players from TP Mazembe.
Meanwhile, Malawian national team coach Meck Mwase says Zambia has a very good team which can help him pick lessons ahead of their Afcon qualifier next month.
In an interview after arriving at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Mwase who has named six players who play professional football in South Africa, said the game against Zambia is crucial as it will help Malawi prepare adequately for the AFCON qualifier against Burkina Faso.
Mwase has named a 25-member squad for the game against the Chipolopolo and hailed the Football Association of Zambia for accepting the request for a friendly fixtures as the two teams prepare for the CHAN and the AFCON qualifiers set for next month.
“We are playing the group stages in the AFCON qualifies against Burkina Faso so we thought playing Zambia will give us very good preparations. Since we are using the fifa calendar we thought of bringing our best players to play Zambia.
“We are looking forward to a good friendly game we always learn something when we play Zambia we wish to have a very good game,” said Mwase.
Malawi is set to take on Zambia tomorrow before facing Zimbabwe in their last fixture of the two international friendlies as they prepare to resume their African Cup of Nations qualification campaign next month.
After playing Malawi tomorrow at Heroes Stadium Zambia will take on South Africa on October 11. The Chipolopolo will conclude their October assignments with a tie against Kenya on October 13 in Nairobi.
