Government to government policy dialogue launched
THE United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the African Union (AU) and Germany have launched a new quarterly series of Government to Government Policy Dialogues on Demographic Diversity and Dividends (4D).
This dialogue would facilitate government to government exchange on policy lessons and innovative practices for promoting human potential and planning well for demographic change.
Zambia was selected to participate in the 4D launch as one of the African countries making strides towards development, as well as implementation of population and development policies, plans and Programmes that promote human-centred development.
Ministry of National Development Planning, Permanent Secretary in charge of Development Planning and Administration Chola Chabala participated in the launch of the 4D and highlighted Zambia’s successes.
Mr Chabala highlighted that through the 7NDP,
Zambia recognises the need for timely, strategic, targeted and simultaneous people-centred investments in various sectors of the economy through integrated efforts that translate policies into equitable cost-effective interventions that leave no one behind.
Mr Chabala stated that Zambia had a large youthful population with 46 percent being children under 15 years of age, therefore the large youthful population presented an opportunity for harnessing the demographic dividend with appropriate investments made in priority areas of the economy, such as education, health and family planning among others.
