'Dirty' water supply worries Kitwe residents

- By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

THE bad quality of water supplied to some areas of Kitwe has left residents worried.

Residents of Kwacha, Buchi, Kawama and some parts of Nkana East complained that the water they had been supplied with for the past few weeks had not been clean.

The residents have appealed to Nkana Water and Sanitation Company (NWSC) to quickily establish what could have been the cause of dirty water supply.

" We are usually supplied with brown water these days and this is worrying us because we do not know what causes that since we have not received any information or notice," one of the Buchi residents, Mainess Bwalya said.

Ms Bwalya explained that most of the times, the water that comes out of the tap is only used for bathing.

Another resident, Mr

Joseph Ziwa, feared that water borne diseases would break out in the area if the situation was not rectified especially that we were approaching the rain season.

And when contacted for a comment, NWSC Public Relations Officer Agnes Simwinga said that the company has had for the past few months been experiencing leakages and bursts across the district some of which were caused by vandals, a situation she said may have been causing the problem.

Ms Simwinga told the Daily Nation that when there was a burts, there was always the collecting point for different particles.

" We advise the residents to always purify the water before drinking as we are trying to sort the matter out. The will send technicians in the field to establish what the exact problem could be," she said

Ms Simwinga said that the company was committed to ensuring that people accessed clean water and advised them to report any noted faults as soon as possible.

She also advised the residents to report such cases to the company for easy follow ups.
