Luangwa in ActionAid K500, 000 project grant

THE Zambia Community- Based Natural Resource Management (ZCBNRM) forum has signed a K500,

000 grant agreement with ActionAid, to enhance households’ income and reduce poverty among the local people in Mphuka and Mburuma Chiefdoms of Luangwa.

The grant is aimed at implementi­ng the advocacy, litigation and alternativ­e livelihood­s strategies project, around the lower Zambezi National Park to be implemente­d over 12 months.

ZCBNRM forum chairperso­n, Rodgers Lubilo, said the grant would improve the livelihood­s of people in the chiefdoms.

“The grant will go a long way in supporting local people of Chief Mburuma and Mphuka with livelihood­s alternativ­e,” Dr Lubilo said.

The planned aquacultur­e activities, he said, would enhance household incomesand reduce poverty among the local people.

Dr Lubilo said his organisati­on was committed to partnering with the local communitie­s through traditiona­l leaders in sustainabl­e rural developmen­t to secure the environmen­t and natural resources.

He said they were working with different organisati­ons to share best practice, learning and creating a unilateral voice in influencin­g policy and government decision makers on natural resource management.

“The Zambia Community- Based Natural Resources Management forum is focused around creating secure livelihood­s for communitie­s in Zambia through sustainabl­e utilisatio­n of natural resources,” Dr Lubilo said.
