Luangwa in ActionAid K500, 000 project grant
THE Zambia Community- Based Natural Resource Management (ZCBNRM) forum has signed a K500,
000 grant agreement with ActionAid, to enhance households’ income and reduce poverty among the local people in Mphuka and Mburuma Chiefdoms of Luangwa.
The grant is aimed at implementing the advocacy, litigation and alternative livelihoods strategies project, around the lower Zambezi National Park to be implemented over 12 months.
ZCBNRM forum chairperson, Rodgers Lubilo, said the grant would improve the livelihoods of people in the chiefdoms.
“The grant will go a long way in supporting local people of Chief Mburuma and Mphuka with livelihoods alternative,” Dr Lubilo said.
The planned aquaculture activities, he said, would enhance household incomesand reduce poverty among the local people.
Dr Lubilo said his organisation was committed to partnering with the local communities through traditional leaders in sustainable rural development to secure the environment and natural resources.
He said they were working with different organisations to share best practice, learning and creating a unilateral voice in influencing policy and government decision makers on natural resource management.
“The Zambia Community- Based Natural Resources Management forum is focused around creating secure livelihoods for communities in Zambia through sustainable utilisation of natural resources,” Dr Lubilo said.
