POLICE MUTE OVER NCHITO FORGERY CASE
POLICEhave remained mute in the case in which Nchima Nchito presented forged documents in court even after several calls by stakeholders to investigate the matter as it was criminal in nature.
Police Public Relations Officer Esther Katongo said the police had not followed the matter to know what transpired.
The presiding magistrate warned that lawyers as officers of the court were not at liberty to mislead courts.
Ms Katongo said that it would have been easy to investigate the matter at hand if the police had followed the matter keenly.
“So for now I don’t have any position regarding this matter,” she said.
Recently, Lusaka Resident Magistrate Alice Walusiku reported Mr Nchito and other lawyers representing three Marshlands directors facing 15 counts of forgery, to Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) for professional misconduct.
Mr Nchito and others presented before the court documents claiming that their clients had been missing court sessions because they were in contact with Covid-19.
But Ms Walusiku indicated that after investigations it was found that what was presented before the court was forged documents. The situation sparked attention from various stakeholders, calling on the police to ensure that matter was investigated.
Stakeholders said if it was an ordinary member of the public involved in the matter, the police would have moved in swiftly.
Zambia Republican Party leader, Wright Musoma, accused the police of shielding Mr Nchito because of his status in society.
