Leadership Movement challenges ECZ
ELECTORAL Commission of Zambia (ECZ) should create a level playing field ahead of the 2021 general elections, the Leadership Movement (LM) has demanded.
LM media director, Tatila Tatila, said it was prudent that the ECZ engaged all political parties which were the main stakeholders in the electoral process regarding campaigning in correctional facilities.
Mr Tatila said that it would be unfair to prevent opposition political parties from campaigning in correctional facilities because the party in power would always visit the facilities to entice the inmates.
He said in an interview yesterday that the ECZ should not make decisions without consulting political parties.
Recently, the ECZ technical committee recommended that political parties must not be allowed to campaigns in correctional facilities because they would compromise security.
But Mr Tatila said there was still time for the ECZ to engage political parties so that they could be given an opportunity to have their views heard.
“For us we think political parties must be allowed to campaign because people who are there can either vote for Leadership Movement or other political party according to the message which they have been fed with during campaigns.
“So just saying that political parties should not be allowed to campaign is unacceptable,” Mr Tatila said.
For us we think political parties must be allowed to campaign because people who are there can either vote for Leadership Movement or other political party according to the message which they have been fed with during campaigns.
