UPND’S ABDUCTION OF COPS CONDEMNED
POLICEofficers should pull up their socks and apprehend people behind abduction of police officers and attacks on villagers in Muchinga province, Patriotic Front (PF) vice chairperson for mobilisation Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has said.
And Christian Democratic Party (CDP) president Danny Pule said the UPND members who allegedly involved in the act must be prosecuted.
Mr Mwamba said the police were supposed to arrest the suspected UPND members immediately the incident happened.
In an interview yesterday, he wondered why the police could even allow the suspects to drive from Mpika to Lusaka when they had enough manpower to handle them.
“Lawlessness has no room in this country, Zambia is a country of laws and not a country of men. Those who commit an offence of such nature, in fact those are criminal offences I think the law should visit them without wasting time.
“I want to advice my brother Kakoma Kanganja (Inspector General of police) to tell his people to pull up their socks. When a crime is committed immediately the people must be apprehended and taken to the courts of law,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Pule said in a separate interview yesterday that political parties should aim at trying to attract people and not to engage in violence.
Dr Pule said: “Zambia is a Christian nation and all the political players must have that in mind that we are not a violent nation.”
He said the abduction of police officers was not a small matter and the law enforcement officers must ensure that people behind regardless the crime were arrested and sent to jail.
“This is a serious offence and we as political players should know that the police are there to keep peace and we should support them,” Dr Pule said.
