Road construction in Matero constituency long overdue
Dear Editor,
WHAT is happening to the announced road construction project for Matero?
Last year, the Chinese construction firm, Avic International was engaged to work on roads in Matero constituency. Some roads are in a deplorable state and people have been bemoaning the poor state of these roads. Slowly but surely, this will now be a thing of the past.
The local MP, Mr Lloyd Mulenga Kaziya has been pushing for road construction from the government. This is because he is the only one with the mandate to lobby for the road construction.
Construction of Mungwi Road and turning it into a dual carriageway was a landmark development regarding road construction in the area.
The Government through the Road Development Agency (RDA) extended the road construction project to Lumumba Road. This road was in deplorable and it has been transformed into a dual carriageway; this has reduced traffic congestion.
The road construction started in Matero. Avic International was in the constituency working on roads in Kapwepwe ward under councillor Patrick Mwamba Salubusa. After completion of road construction in Kapwepwe ward, the project is supposed to be rolled out to other wards. Ultimately, this will see roads in George and Zingalume, among others turned into bituminous standard.
Where is the contractor? One thing for a fact is that development is a gradual process. All said and done, the construction of roads underway in Matero constituency is a milestone achievement especially that it is being done before the onset of the rainy season.. Through concerted efforts of the stakeholders namely the people, the corporate world and the civic leaders among others, a lot of development can be scored in the area.
