AVIC complains of theft at Ndola airport
AVIC International Senior Consultant, Lei Yingqi is dismayed with the continued levels of theft of materials at the Copperbelt International airport site in Ndola.
Mr. Lei said the theft of materials is detrimental to progression of the works at the 397 million-US-Dollar aviation project.
In June this year, Mr. Lei reported theft of some cables to Deputy Secretary to Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, who inspected works on the project.
He said despite engaging surrounding communities, employees and police on the matter, the unpatriotic people have continued breaking the wire fence.
But Copperbelt Police Commissioner, Charity Katanga said there is need to enhance internal security before talking about the police.
She has, however, assured that police will be ready to arrest such people provided they are furnished with adequate information.
Ms. Katanga has urged management at the new airport to properly furnish her office with all employees’ details so that police officers can easily follow up matters of such nature.
This came to light when a team from the Civil Aviation Authority toured the multi-million-dollar project to ascertain quality of works.
And Civil Aviation Authority Acting Board Chairperson, Patrick Nswana expressed satisfaction with the quality of works exhibited by the contractor so far.
Mr. Nswana said the authority has confidence in the contractor and consultants who are attached to undertake the works.
Works at the aviation project now stand at 80 percent overall completion. - ZNBC
