NORTHWEST PS DECRIES HATE SPEECH

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

YOUNGpeople should desist from spread hate speeches based on tribal lines on social media as the trend is retrogressive, North-western Province Permanent Secretary Willies Mangimela has advised.

Mr Mangimela regretted that it had become fashionable for youths to trade insults, lies and propaganda against certain tribes and individuals they did not like.

He charged that some young people had gone to an extent of insulting the Head of State saying if the trend does not stop, the nation will be divided.

The Permanent Secretary said this in a speech read for by his Deputy, Emmanuel

Chihili, during the commemoration of this year’s 56th Independence at Manyama school ground in Kalumbila district.

"This is not the vision of our forefathers when they were coining slogans such as the One Zambia One Nation,” he said.

He said Government was aware of some people who were taking advantage of the freedom and attempting to destroy the vision of the forefathers.

Mr Mangimela political freedom said could that not be fully enjoyed in midst of civil strife which could be caused through hate speech, propaganda and tribal remarks.

He however stated that in order to curb the vice, Government had put in place various interventions to keep the youth busy through empowerment programmes.

"I am very positive that the young people that have applied already will begin receiving these funds. And it is my hope that Kalumbila youths will also receive theirs," he said.
