Keep your lane, Mukuni told

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

CHIEF Mukuni must stick to his lane because has no authority to control other chiefs in the country, chief Luchembe of Mpika has said.

The traditional leader said Senior Chief Mukuni had no rights in any way to identify a political leader which all chiefs should support ahead of 2021 elections.

Chief Luchembe wondered why Senior Chief Mukuni could castigate Paramount Chief Mpezeni for rallying support for President Edgar Lungu ahead of the 2021 general elections.

He said in an interview yesterday that if Senior Chief Mukuni supported opposition

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, he should not expect fellow traditional leaders to follow suit.

The traditional leader said it was important that chief Mukuni respected other chiefs’ opinions and stop issuing careless statements.

He was reacting to a statement by chief Mukuni castigating Paramount chief Mpezeni on his decision to support President Lungu ahead of 2021 general elections.

Paramount Chief Mpezeni endorsed President Lungu as his preferred candidate ahead of 2021 general elections and

appealed to voters in Eastern province to give him a 100 per cent vote.

In reaction, Senior Chief Mukuni said if the statement by Paramount Chief Mpezeni was left unchecked it would undermine political, social and ethnic diversity and the rule of law.

But chief Luchembe said Senior Chief Mukuni should not be involved in other people’s views.

“He has come out openly to support Mr Hichilema so what is wrong for Paramount Chief Mpezeni choosing his preferred candidate. I thing Senior Chief Mukuni is going out the way and this will not be allowed,” chief Luchembe said.
