Lungu honored with good leadership award
The UPF Leadership and Good Governance Award is presented on behalf of the founders, Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon, to those manifesting excellence in leadership, integrating professional excellence and practical wisdom with moral and spiritual principles.
The award was presented to President Lungu who was accompanied by the first lady, Esther at the Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) in Lusaka’s Matero area yesterday.
In handing over the award to the head of State, UPF national president, Reverend David Phiri explained that the award was globally given to high ranking leaders recognized to have demonstrated outstanding leadership principles, including fairness, honesty, accountability, transparency and inclusiveness.
Rev. Phiri said President Lungu deserved the award because he had demonstrated commitment to live for the sake of others in service to God and humanity.
He said the UPF had no objection in working with President Lungu’s Government and supporting it in any way because he was not only delivering infrastructure development in Zambia but also promoting harmony and cooperation beyond barriers of race.
Rev. Phiri said the international federation had also recognized his efforts to change the face of Zambia through infrastructure development such as the Kazungula Bridge and others.
“Your Government has worked tremendously. We have seen consistency in development in this country. Your Government has also done tremendously well in ensuring the people of Zambia are spared of Covid-19. So many things are seen on the ground,” Rev. Phiri said.
And in accepting the award, President Lungu who thanked the UPF for the gesture urged Zambians to heed the word of God.
President Edgar Lungu said his Government’s relationship with the church was not seasonal but permanent, because he believed it was a key stakeholder in national development.
President Lungu also assured the church members and the clergy of his Government’s willingness to empower them.
