Will Africa Ever be Lectured About Free and Fair Elections?

-

Dear editor,

On Thursday night both President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate, Joe Biden addressed the nation.

In his address, Biden spoke about his concerns on the Corona virus pandemic, bemoaned the loss of over 235,000 lives, and decried the continued high infection rate. He urged his supporters to remain calm saying the "system is working".

He ended the address with "God bless America and our troops".

He appeared more presidential or portrayed an image of a confident President-elect. Incumbent, President Donald Trump, in his address expressed concern and alleged extensive fraud, irregularities and theft in the process of ballot handling especially the mail-in ballots. All major tv networks cut him away. A clear case of his powers sipping away and eroded. Similarly both Twitter and Facebook have been covering President Trump's statement with disclaimers!

The media has not allowed Trump to express himself and his allegations claiming that he has not presented any evi-dence and his remarks may probably undermine the integrity of the on-going voter tabulations and electoral process. CNN Reports the standing.

Biden -253

Trump- 213

A winner requires a minimum of 270 electoral votes.

A winner can't be declared yet as final results from Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia, Arizona and Michigan are being awaited to determine outcome.

After this election, will the USA still have higher moral authority to lecture African governments on the need to hold fair, objective and transparent elections?

Has the USA media exercised its impartial role or exhibited the worst bias against a candidate?

Does Democracy work at all?

COMMENTS:

Nachilima Chisala: They just should leave Africa alone... media awe sure but well at least they will let us run our elections our way

Humphrey Kasale: The Great lesson is they have strong institutions of Governance which can't be compromised by the sitting president. Trump has just realised that actually he has no absolute power. If the institutions so wish to remove the president as the case may be with him they do it so smartly

Richard K Zimba: They are saying Biden is doing well in postal ballots that's why Trump is suspecting rigging. I think bamu bidila ma voti Trump

Honourable Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba, these elections are so baffling and mind boggling, _253 for Biden and _213 for Trump since yesterday morning, pls shed some light about this issue sir
